A message from the Principal
Dear Parents,
Welcome to St Margaret Mary’s Primary School.
We are a vibrant learning community with a strong Catholic identity and a collective vision for your child. Our school is committed to developing the whole child, providing academic, social, emotional, and spiritual nourishment for every student.
As the new Principal, I am honoured to work alongside our talented staff, students, and community members to realise this vision.
St Margaret Mary’s Spotswood has 157 students across seven classrooms for the 2024 school year. This environment allows us to provide personalised attention and care while offering the perfect setting for children to build lifelong friendships.
Learning at SMM is enhanced by low student to teacher ratios through the provision of masters of education trained, Learning Enhancement Teachers, (L.E.T.S) These experienced teachers work in classrooms, shoulder to shoulder with classroom teachers to assist in the facilitation of timely point of need teaching, whether that be support or extension of students in our school. We focus on evidence informed, High Impact Teaching Strategies (H.I.T.S.), in lessons that combine daily explicit teaching, student engagement and opportunities for consolidation of learning through inquiry investigations, innovation and design to further empower student voice and creativity.
Our teaching and learning philosophies nurture your child’s natural curiosity, helping them discover their love of learning. Whether it’s through extra support or enrichment opportunities, we develop each child and assist them to reach their full potential.
Our school prioritises Numeracy, Literacy, Religious Education, Social and Emotional Learning, and Digital Technology skills. We have specialist teachers in Physical Education, Science, Art, and AUSLAN, as well as a longstanding relationship with the nearby Scienceworks Museum.
Under the guidance of our Parish Priest, Fr. Binh Le, our learning community also seeks to meet the spiritual needs of children.
St Margaret Mary was devoted to spreading the love of God in thought, word, and deed. Following in these footsteps, we challenge our students to think beyond themselves and act with Respect, Compassion, Integrity and Excellence in their daily lives. These school values are embedded in all we do at SMM. Our faith in Jesus and the Gospel values provide a safe and inclusive environment for all children, of all faiths, to grow and thrive.
Community is the lifeblood of our school. We value the participation of parents and families because we know how enriching this sense of community can be – not just for students but for everyone involved in school life.
I am delighted and honoured to be the Principal of St. Margaret Mary’s Primary School. It is a privilege to be involved in your child’s education, and I look forward to working alongside all members of this community in 2024 and beyond.
