Newsletter Term 1, Week 8 2022
Family Picnic and sausage sizzle - 7th April 5.00pm-7.00pm
Last Day of Term 1- Early Finish 8th April at 1.00pm
Dear Parents,
Last Sunday began the 3rd week of Lent. The readings for the 3rd Sunday of Lent were a call to repent and return to the Lord. The first reading tells of how Moses encountered God in the burning bush. The psalm sings of God’s kindness and mercy and in the second reading, Paul tells us to learn from the past.
In the gospel, Jesus warns people to change their ways. He also tells the parable of the fig tree. God gives us many opportunities to grow, but we must not resist his efforts to help us mature in faith. During this time of Lent, ‘What needs to change in our lives?’
Last week we also celebrated Catholic Education Week. We celebrate being part of a system that has 153,000 students attending 335 Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Melbourne. There are 17,000 teacher and non teaching staff working in those 335 schools and there are over 500 Primary, Secondary, and Special Catholic Schools in Victoria.
There are 1,755 Catholic schools in Australia with more than 777,000 students enrolled, employing almost 100,000 staff. The theme of Catholic Education Week in 2022 was 'The Way of the Gospel'. This theme is based on Archbishop Peter A Comensoli’s 2021 Pastoral Letter.
Last Saturday 19th March we celebrated the feast day of the namesake of our Parish - St. Joseph. St. Joseph was the earthly father of Jesus and the head of the holy family. He is also the patron Saint of the Universal Catholic Church and his life is recorded throughout the New Testament.
To celebrate the feast, the two Parish schools St. Margaret Mary’s and Sacred Heart came together for a Family Mass. Thank you to all the families and staff that attended the mass to support our Parish.
Just a reminder, that we have our end of term picnic and sausage sizzle on Thursday 7th April.
We also have the annual Easter Bonnet Parade and raffle on the last day of the term. I hope to see everyone at both events.
Regards,
Andrea Richards

Footy Tipping
Welcome back tipsters to the new season. We have had a bumper start with 36 tipsters eager to get their hands on the prize (which will be announced shortly).
StaceyPM has hit the lead, sharing with Disey and followed close behind by Tippy Timmy with a 0 margin. We have a couple of punters that appear to have hit the wall early but don’t be disheartened, there’s a long way to go.
There are a couple of close games this round, with Richmond V GWS being a tough one to tip. The next time we get an update on the ladder will be in the week 11 newsletter so make sure you get those tips in early and be sure to deposit that $20 if you haven’t done so already.

What an exciting week at Emmanuel. The boys at St Paul’s had their day out at Adventure Park, with lots of fun had and new friendships formed. ACC sport at St Paul’s and SACCSS sport at Notre Dame are winding down for the term with many students enjoying the chance to represent the College, some for the first time. It has been very rewarding to hear reports of excellent behaviour and that our students really played their sports in the right spirit.
This week at both campuses we hosted more than 350 students from feeder primary schools at our tabloid sports days. These days were conducted by our Year 11 VET Sport & Recreation students and were a fantastic experience for both our students and the primary school students.
Our next major event is the College Open Day to be held on Sunday 22 May 2022. Bookings for the event are essential and can be made under the Tours & Events tab on the right-hand side of the homepage of the College website, www.ecmelb.catholic.edu.au
Please note that applications are now being accepted for Year 7, 2024. A Prospectus Pack containing an application form can be requested from the Enrolment Information tab, also on the right hand side of the homepage of the College website, by emailing enrolments@ecmelb.catholic.edu.au, calling the College Registrar on 8325 5119 or visiting our friendly staff at reception of either of our campuses. Applications for Year 7, 2024 close on Friday August 19, 2022.
We hope to see you at a school event soon.
