9th May District Cross Country

10th-20th May NAPLAN for years 3 and 5

12th May Confirmation Formation evening in SMM Hall

Dear Parents,

On 1st May annually, we commemorate the feast of St Joseph the Worker, established by Pope Pius XII in 1955. Beginning today, you're invited to participate in four weeks of prayer using the the resource 'A Month with St Joseph' featuring video reflections, and the prayers found below.

As our school is part of the Parish of St. Joseph, this is an ideal way to connect our children to our community and the Patron Saint of our Parish.

This term we welcome to our staff and school community Lucy O’Dea. Lucy is the new Learning Enhancement Teacher in Prep working alongside Ms. Crawford. Lucy will work four days a week, till 1.30pm, and assist in teaching and planning for all of our prep students’ needs.

Lucy is an experienced teacher and has worked in a number of other Catholic schools prior to St. Margaret Mary’s, including St. Joseph’s Collingwood, St. James Brighton, Mother Teresa Craigieburn and Trinity in Richmond.

On behalf of the St. Margaret Mary’s community, I welcome Lucy to our school and look forward to getting to know her. Thank you to Mrs Moscato who took on the role of Learning Enhancement Teacher in term 1 whilst we advertised.

Next Monday we have 22 students representing our school in the District Cross Country at Yarraville Gardens. The children will run over 2 kms and 3 kms depending on their age group.

We wish Sophie A, Jackson, Charlotte, Ellie, Jacinta, Noah, Milla G, Erfan, Chloe, Finbar, Ryan, Sam, Diego, Harri, Oliver R, Luke, Lily S, Xavier S, Karli, Zoe, Milla U & Finn all the very best for their race and knowing that they will each do their very best.

Regards,

Andrea Richards

Principal

Around The Classrooms

What a week!

On Tuesday we had a visit from Gabrielle Prideaux from the Spotswood Kingsville RSL. She discussed the importance of ANZAC Day and some of the sacrifices others have made. On Wednesday we were lucky enough to have Monica from Cultural Infusion to give some insights into Indigenous culture. We learn’t about the ways Indigenous Australians mapped their local areas and some of the things that were used as food and even lollies. Just don’t ask what they were made of…

It was terrific to welcome students back yesterday after a well deserved break following such a long first term. All students and staff, teaching and non-teaching, are to be commended for their hard work and perseverance during Term 1.

Over the break, the College ran an induction for the new mentors in our Nexus Mentoring Program. During the last three years we have now inducted more than 50 old-collegians into our mentoring program. The program connects Year 11 & 12 students with old collegians who work in a career where the student would like to pursue a career. It has yielded outstanding results for the students as well as the mentors. It has also been a great way for the mentors to become re-connected with their school and give back to the community.

Our next College event is the annual Open Day which is being conducted as follows:

St Paul’s Campus        -         Sunday 22 May           -         10.30 am – 1.30 pm

Notre Dame Campus  -         Sunday 22 May            -         11.00 am – 2.00 pm

Registrations are essential for these events and can be made under the Tours & Events tab on the right hand side of the College website, www.ecmelb.catholic.edu.au

Enrolment applications for Year 7, 2024 are now being accepted. Closure date for these to be submitted are Friday 19 August. If you currently have a child in Grade 5 and wish to be considered for a place at the College, it is a requirement to submit an application. A Prospectus Pack containing an application form can be requested under the enrolments tab on the right hand side of the College website homepage, by emailing enrolments@ecmelb.catholic.edu.au , calling the College Registrar on 8325 5119 or visiting the friendly staff in reception of either of our campuses.

We hope to see you at an event soon.
