Dear Parents,
This week we celebrated both the Feast of the Ascension and the Feast of the Visitation. One feast (the Ascension) marks the end of the resurrection story whilst the other feast (the Visitation) celebrates when Mary (who is pregnant with Jesus) visits her cousin Elizabeth (who is pregnant with John the Baptist).
The story of the visitation depicts the coming of Jesus Christ whose birth we celebrate at Christmas. Whilst in Israel in 2019, I had the pleasure of visiting the Church of the Visitation in Ein Karem, Jerusalem.
In the courtyard of the church, is this lovely sculpture of Mary being greeted by Elizabeth with 42 ceramic tablets (on the walls) of the 'Magnificat' prayer in many different languages.
Last week prior to confirmation the new auxiliary Bishops for the Western Region, Bishop Martin Ashe came to visit our Grade 6 Confirmation Candidate. Bishop Martin spoke to the children about the Sacrament of Confirmation, what they could expect at the ceremony and the thinking behind their choosing of their Saint name.
The children were outstanding in their answers to his questions and reflecting on why they had chosen their Confirmation Saint name.
On Thursday 26th May these same children made their Confirmation. The ceremony lead by Bishop Martin and concelebrated by Fr. Binh was a wonderful celebration of their faith journey.
We were also lucky enough to be joined by the St. Joseph’s Parish Choir led by our very own Larissa Cairns (Gilbert and Ruby’s mum).
Last week the senior students competed in the Winter Gala Day for the Yarraville District. Our Netball and Soccer teams represented the school with pride and great sportsmanship.
Our Soccer team was successful in winning the premiership for their division. Congratulations to all of the children that took part in this day and to Mrs. Messig, Mrs McGuirk and their teachers for their organisation and support.
Regards,
Andrea Richards
Principal

Footy Tipping
It is still very close in the tipping competition at the moment with only 3 tips separating the top 10. Disey was aiming to knock out the competition in one swoop but his or her plan didn’t go as expected and has opened the door to a hostile takeover.
Mrs Slatts has dropped the bundle while RPollard22 is storming up the charts. Kate 73 has made it into the top 10, but with a bye this week there may not be too much movement.
There’s still a long way to go and fortune favours the brave. Let’s see who can shoot to glory and who goes down in flames.
Until next time…

On the weekend it was amazing to have so many families attend the Open Day at both of our campuses. The atmosphere was electric with the school full of interested families. As always the feedback about our facilities and subject offering was terrific, but, the most rewarding part of the day were the incredibly positive comments that people made about our student ambassadors. Whether assisting with subject displays, barbeques or running tours, the students were tremendous and should be as proud of themselves as we are of them.
It was really exciting last week to have this year’s musical production – Broadway Bonanza go ahead. After two years of cancelled shows due to COVID, it was amazing to enjoy the wonderful talent of the young people in our community. The hard work of the students and supporting staff all contributed to a fantastic show that was enjoyed by around 500 people at the Thursday evening session. We also had many of our feeder primary schools attend the matinee sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, with about 800 students enjoying the show. Whatever your interests or talents, there truly is a place for everyone at Emmanuel College.
Our next major College experience event is the annual Information Morning at each campus, as always, registrations are essential for these events and can be made via the Tours & Events tab on the right hand side of the College website homepage, www.ecmelb.catholic.edu.au. It is important to note that applications are now being accepted for students commencing Year 7 in 2024.
